The historic bar re-opens after 92 years. The Phoenix Saloon, in the heart of downtown, last closed it's doors on June 26, 1918. Famous as the birthplace of chili, it had an alligator pit, badger fights, the coldest beer in town and live music every Saturday night. How did a Texas bar in a German town react to Prohibition!?... No big surprise. It set up a brewery in the basement and cut two tunnels to distribute the illicit booze...Now, 92 years later, the Phoenix Saloon is re-open as a historic bar, chili parlor and music venue.
