Funky enough to be Clyde Stubblefield’s kin, this DJ ain’t no jive turkey. DJ b.read, otherwise known as Barrett Read, was born and raised in New Braunfels and is continuously working hard to keep Funk, Soul and Hip Hop alive in NB. His 20 years of experience as a drummer has given him a broad yet scrupulous ear for rhythm. This talent, coupled with his expansive and groove-filled music catalog makes for a truly interesting mix that keeps the party moving. With roughly 5 years as a DJ under his belt, you may remember him cutting his teeth as a DJ hosting Hip Hop Night in the Biergarten at Friesenhaus, which when reminisced by those that were there, sound like those waxing poetic about the “good ole days”. He then transitioned Hip Hop Night to The Black Whale, and his night most recently evolved into Two Handfuls of Funk at The Phoenix Saloon. Aside from enjoying playing house parties around town, other events of note are the DJ'ing the Grand Opening/New Years’ Eve party at The Pour Haus, as well as the highlight of his DJ career: opening up last summer at River Road Icehouse’s Hip Hop Rewind featuring Tone Loc, Rob Base, and Young MC. Mixing Funk, Soul, Hip Hop, Reggae, as well as whatever else floats the parties' boat, he keeps the head-nod inducing music flowing throughout the night, then unexpectedly brings out the classics that get the dance floor moving. He still resides in New Braunfels with his charmingly bodacious wife Lexi, their goober of a dog Georgia Peach, and can likely be found this summer playing 45’s on random stretches of hot sidewalk downtown as well as a few establishments that are willing to bring on the Funk. Fun fact: his favorite comedian is Bill Cosby. Contact thru link for booking.
